The ‘07 Major Peewee Rep team, sponsored by Scotiabank went stateside this weekend for a few battles in Buffalo.
Pool play action saw Stratford come up against the Glancaster Bombers, Rochester Coalition and North Toronto, finishing with a 0-1-2 record. Friday morning the boys fell to the Bombers 5-1 in a lopsided loss. The lone goal came from Ryan Gansevles, assisted by Blair Stokes and Carter Petrie. In their second battle Stratford took a brief 2-0 lead against Rochester with goals from Griffin McGregor, assisted by Dawson White and Nathan Siebert assisted by Aaron Green. Rochester fought back leading 3-2, but Stratford tied it with a goal from Petrie, assisted by Colin Schultz. Goaltenders Zack Irvin and Ryan McGill shared the duties between the pipes, making timely saves throughout both games. In their final pool play game the Warriors tied North Toronto 1-1. Strong work on the blue line from Blake Hodgson and Austin Musselman, coupled with massive toe saves from Irvin, kept Stratford in the game. The lone goal for the Warriors came early in the first when Siebert fired it in, assisted by Ryan McGee and Petrie. In their final game of the tournament the Warriors fell in overtime to Rochester. Petrie opened the scoring in the first, but Rochester tied it early in the second. Strong work on the backcheck from Zach Schultz and Grady Murphy, along with big saves from McGill kept the battle going. In the third Rochester briefly pulled ahead but Stokes found the back of the net off a feed from Rylan Hall and Colin Schultz to tie the game, forcing the OT. Unfortunately it was not to be as the Warriors came up short losing 3-2.
