Major PeeWee MD Warriors go 1-2 on Season
Submitted by Rob Nyenhuis

The All Equip Repair Major PeeWee MD Warriors entered the third week of their season looking to find themselves and gel as a team to put the finesse in their game that’s been needed in this young year. The boys hosted the Burlington Bulldogs Red Saturday evening at the RBC arena. The boys came out and showed some life as Liam Olsen lifted the Warriors with a finesse move at the net putting the Warriors on the Scoreboard and up 1-0. This was quickly answered by the Bulldog offence providing little time for the home crowd to enjoy the lift of having the lead.

The Warriors entered the second period starting into penalty trouble, shifting the momentum of the game to the bulldogs. Sustained pressure from multiple power plays took their toll on the home team as net minder Lachlan Stanley face multiple shots, conceding 3 more in a 4-1 loss in front of the home crowd.

Game two put the Warriors on the road to Hamilton Sunday where they looked to re-group from the devastating loss Saturday. A much more inspired group hit the ice against the Hamilton Huskies Red team. Although the Warriors were hemmed into their end for much of the first, Hamilton could only penetrate the Warrior net twice, fortunately keeping the Warriors within reach for better play to come. In the second and with better work on rushes up the ice, the Warriors began to cycle the puck deep in Hamilton’s zone. Spencer Murphy was thrown to the Ice in the second resulting in a stoppage of play and outrage from the Warrior bench. The boys rallied around their mate scoring 3 unanswered goals. First it was a healthy Murphy who took matters into his own hands and streaked in from the wing on a rush a buried it into the Hamilton net. The goal was assisted by Jared Smith. Liam Olsen took this momentum throwing one in near the net from Ellis Schnurr to tie it and finally Dylan Abel buried a loose puck putting the Warriors up 3-2 in three quick minutes of hard Warrior pressure. Into the third the Warriors needed to hold the ensuing tide from Hamilton. They managed well to keep them at bay for 13 of the 15 minute period. Hamilton pulled their keeper put the pressure to the Warriors and tied it up 3-3. With less than a minute left, Hamilton took advantage of a drifting Warrior D man leaving a winger open in the slot and sealing the Warrior’s fate late for a tough 4-3 loss.

The Major PeeWee MD Warriors hit the road again to face the Cambridge Hawks Friday and host the Burlington Bulldogs White at the RBC Saturday Evening.
