The Holloway Auto Parts Plus U10 Rep Team battled this past weekend in the Stratford Silverstick Tournament.

GAME #1 vs. Mississauga Beasts

Early morning rising brought the boys to the St. Mary’s Pyramid Centre to face off against the very loud Beasts. The game was quickly on its way with Josef Moss feeding Owen Hurley, who knocked the peanut butter off the shelf to put the Warriors on the board, during the second shift of the game. Winger Joey Bitzer was firing on all cylinders, back checking, for checking, pinching the boards and creating open spaces, to help keep the boy’s momentum going. Ending the period Hurley riffled a shot and Moss right on the doorstep poked in goal #2. Receiving hardest working player of the game was, goaltender Sawyer Verspeeten, his glove was HOT HOT HOT making many key saves to keep the boys in the lead. Entering the third period, Coleton Schmidt snagged a puck and turned the jets on, to neatly shoot in the Warriors third goal. Jaxon Hallock and Marcus Atkinson played a consistent game on the back end, working together to keep pucks up the boards and out of the center. As the clock was winding down, Hurley picked off a puck and sealed the shutout for the boys with a 4-0 victory.

GAME #2 vs. Ottawa Valley Silver Seven

The second game came against a strong offensive team. Nate Micks is the only player during the tournament that was able to net a puck against Ottawa, with a quick shot, to put the boys on the board first. The boys were able to battle with Ottawa for the first two periods with Nash Zacher standing tall between the pipes, facing over 50+ challenging shots. The third period Ottawa executed their offence effectively, to pull away from the Warriors and take the win. Winger Andrew Hodgson played a gritty game along the boards, holding Ottawa to the walls of the pad. Regardless of the frustrations of the outcome of the game, the U10 boys carried themselves with tremendous sportsmanship from start to finish. Leaving the ice, the boys respectively held their sticks up, saluting the Ottawa team for a game well played.

GAME #3 vs. Oakville Rangers

The puck dropped at 1:10P.M and the battle was on! Micks took his strides and headed down the right side, with a quick pass over to Schmidt, there was no hesitation in his release to secure the first goal. Lincoln Rae had a great game keeping offensive opportunities coming, with quick chips up the boards around the Rangers to the hungry Warriors. Mason Bye’s back checking, speed and determination to hunt down any puck, kept the Rangers on their toes. With good puck movement throughout the line, led to the second goal by Hurley, midway threw the period. Early in the third, Moss picked a puck off the boards and glided in the final goal for the team making it 3-0. Oakville answered back ending the third with a couple goals of their own, but defensive duo made up of Brayden Keating and Nash Riehl cleared the garbage in front of the net to keep the lead for the red, white and blue.

GAME #4 vs. Toronto North

With boys having clenched a spot to the Semis, they entered this game battling for Home/Away. Unsure of what their opponent was going to be like, the boys came out skating quick but with some board battles, blue line scrambles, bad puck bounces they couldn’t capitalize on any offensive chances, leaving the first period scoreless. Moss scored the lone goal for the team in the second period. Tyler Peck played an aggressive game, using his body to keep Toronto off balance and stealing pucks off back checks. The blue line was held strong by Nick Forman and Malcolm Austin-Olsen, both playing a tough game, clearing pucks, and keeping the Toronto North sticks off the ice. The third period Toronto managed to sneak in a couple goals to take the W and win home ice advantage for the semis.

GAME #5 vs. Toronto North SEMI FINALS

Puck dropped at 8:30A.M in the barn and the boys came out looking for redemption, after coming off a loss from Toronto the day before. The first period neither team could seal the deal, despite the many end to end battles, rushes, penalties and various shots. Hurley was awarded hardest worker, with his speed on point all game, rushing pucks, taking shots but was snake bitten by the Toronto goaltender. Toronto snuck a couple goals in the third but the Warriors didn’t give up, they battled every minute of the game. Schmidt putting in many minutes ending the game, kept his strides steady and released a bullet that was just shy of hitting the mesh, that sent an “ohhhhhh” echoing through the crowd. Although the team ran out of minutes to move past the semis they executed a solid game.

The U10 Rep Team made up by; Nash Zacher, Sawyer Verspeeten, Brayen Keating, Nash Riehl, Malcolm Austin-Olsen, Nick Forman, Jaxon Hallock, Marcus Atkinson, Andrew Hodgson, Mason Bye, Joey Bitzer, Lincoln Rae, Owen Hurley, Joseph Moss, Tyler Peck, Nate Micks and Coleton Schmidt, should be proud of the hard work they put in this weekend and use it as a building block for what is yet to come.

Congratulations boys for making it to the Silverstick Semis !!!
