Minor Atom MD Weekend Summary - February 7 & 8
The AJ Jackson Construction Minor Atom MD Warriors opened up their playoffs with a home-and-home against the London Bandits Black over the weekend.

On Saturday, the Warriors went toe-to-toe with the Bandits, who finished first place in the regular season. Jake Heinbuch scored a wrap-around goal with five seconds left in the second period to bring Stratford within one goal. Cole Cassone started the play by dumping the puck into the offensive end, where Tyson Talsma picked it up behind the net and worked it over to Heinbuch. Cassone and Talsma earned assists on the play. London scored with one-minute left in the third preriod to go up by two, and added another goal on an empty net to finalize the score at 4-1. Saturday saw an entire team effort by the Warriors, with excellent passing and aggressive two-way hockey.

On Sunday the Warriors competed with the Bandits for the first two periods, but couldn’t hold on in the third. Aiden Benton put Stratford on the board at the 4:51 mark of the first period, scoring a shorthanded goal. Ewan Ollson earned an assist on the play, taking the puck wide off the neutral zone face-off and unleashing a hard wrist shot that produced a big rebound, which Benton capitalized on. Stratford went into the third period down by one but got caught running around in the defensive end. Jake Heinbuch scored Stratford’s second of the game, the result of a persistent effort. Garrett Spahiu and Logan Lott earned assists on the goal. The Bandits went on to win the game by a score of 6-2. Goaltender Cameron Ground saw a lot of action over both meetings, helping to keep the Warriors in the game.
