Minor Atom MD Weekend Summary - February 14 & 15
The AJ Jackson Construction Minor Atom MD Warriors played a pair
of games over the weekend.
Saturday against the North London Nationals saw the Warriors work their way from a 3-1 deficit, scoring two goals within the last minute of the game to earn a 3-3 tie. Bruce Munro scored Stratford’s first goal of the game, picking up a rebound from a hard shot by linemate Liam Hill, finishing with a high, hard backhand shot that beat the Nationals netminder. Zach Richardson also earned an assist on the play. With their goalie pulled, the Warriors second goal began with defenceman Corey Jones working the puck up the boards to Hill, who finished with a wrist shot to bring Stratford within one at the 1:02 mark of the third period. Hill struck again with ten seconds left in the period to complete the comeback. Jake Heinbuch and Munro earned assists on the goal.
On Sunday against the visiting Oakridge Aeros, the game remained tied 1-1 well into the third period, until Oakridge capitalized on a small window of opportunity, scoring two goals a minute apart, adding an empty net goal to solidify a 4-1 victory over the Warriors. Defenceman Luke Heisz scored the lone goal for Stratford on a powerplay rush, finishing with a low wrist shot that beat the Aeros goaltender. Golatender Cameron Ground stood strong in net over both games of the weekend, turning away a number of shots to keep his teammates in the game.
